Wahoogotchi

An internal hackathon project that reimagines cycling motivation through play. Wahoogotchi blends endurance culture with the charm of digital pets to turn training into something more fun, personal, and a little weird in the best way.

The problem

Cycling apps are good at numbers. Watts, splits, zones, the exact moment you blew up on the last climb. None of that makes riding fun. I wanted to see what happens when you drop the seriousness and put some joy back in.

So I submitted Wahoogotchi for the 2025 hackathon, a Tamagotchi-inspired digital companion that grows, reacts, and evolves based on your real rides.

The idea

Wahoogotchi is a digital pet that lives on your ride data. It grows, reacts, and evolves based on what you actually do on the bike. Skip a week and it notices. Finish a long ride and it celebrates with you.

Process

I also used this project to test how far AI-generated graphics and voiceover could take a pitch video. Three tools did most of the work:

  • ChatGPT wrote the script. I locked the tone to a 90s as-seen-on-TV infomercial and kept iterating until it read right out loud.
  • ElevenLabs generated the voiceover once the script landed.
  • Figma generated the fluffy pet companions.

I stitched everything together in Adobe Premiere Pro and added the final touches. That step took longer than the rest of the project combined. If you edit video for a living, you have my respect.
